Tips for Shopping With Multiple Children

It can be a challenge to shop with one child. Add another child and possible another or another, and you can have quite the challenge on your hands, especially if you need to shop at a big store with little stimulation for the child such as a grocery store. Fortunately, there are different things that you can do in order to make shopping with multiple children as painless as possible. The following are some techniques you might want to try.
Decide on the logistics beforehand
Before you even go into the store figure out how you physically want to handle the children. Do they have carts that can seat multiple children? Can you put one child in the cart and have another walk next to you? Do you want to bring your stroller in with you? Consider these things so that you know the best way to maneuver and not lose a child. Remember that there is more than one of them and only one of you – you do not want them going in separate directions at once.
Bring food
Snacks can go a long way in calming children down. Bring something that takes a long time to eat. For instance, you can bring some healthy popcorn, which doesn’t have a lot of calories and takes a while to eat. Unless they are very good at sharing, you might want to make them individual baggies to make it easier and avoid fights. Do not give them anything that is going to make them hyper such as candy.
Bring something for them to do
You can bring a book for them to read or an activity book. You can bring stickers or even a handheld gaming system or portable DVD player. They make some that are specifically “kid tough.” This can help to keep them occupied while you are moving around.
Have them help
If they are older you might be able to distract them by employing their help. Have them put the grocery items in the cart. This might get them involved and make them less bored.
Think of games that you can play
You can have your children play games. For instance, you can play an “I Spy” game or have them pick out items that begin with different letters of the alphabet.
Shopping with multiple children does not have to be a disaster if you take your time to plan. Consider the above tips to help you accomplish this.
