Weight Loss Diets That You Should Avoid
2834 Words: 499
There are many weight loss diets out there. Some are good, some are bad and some are really bad. There are warning signs that should immediately clue you in to a diet that is going to be detrimental for your health. The following are weight loss diets that you should avoid.
A diet that promises too much
Lose 20 pounds in the first week! Eat all you want! No exercise! The weight will just fall off!
Sure.
And exactly how will this happen? It is sad how many people these ridiculous claims snare. Unfortunately there is no diet that will allow you to lose a ridiculous amount of weight immediately, and certainly no diet that will help you lose weight without somehow changing your food intake and/or activity level. These places do not care that their claims are completely false – they are just looking to get you to pay the $19.95 or whatever they charge for their secret diet handbook or however else their program works. When it doesn’t work, good luck getting your money back. The truth is that you lose weight by changing what you eat, changing your activity level or doing both (besides more drastic surgical or medical methods). The good news is that if you do these things, the weight should come off, perhaps slowly but steadily. Better to go for a more challenging diet that works than a ridiculously simple one that doesn’t.
Drug dealing diets
It would be wonderful if there were medicine that you could take that would just melt away those pounds. And it’s amazing at how many diets promise exactly that in the form of weight loss supplements (not talking about something your physician prescribes). If there were something that truly worked wonders, wouldn’t everyone be taking them? Most of these drugs have never been scientifically proven to have the effect that they claim, and what’s worse, many of them have not been thoroughly tested for safety. There have even been cases in which people have died due to an untested supplement that was later found to have serious side effects.
Diets that tell you to cut out entire food groups or healthy foods
We all remember the diet that told everyone to cut out every single carbohydrate, including all fruits, yet allowed someone to have as many fat-laden hamburgers as they wanted. This is not a healthy diet. First, for most it is not sustainable. They can only deprive themselves of so much food that they like for so long. Also it is not healthy. It is not a bad idea to limit carbs, however, cutting out all fruit means you miss out on a lot of healthy nutrients and minerals. And pushing that you can have as many hamburgers and unhealthy meats as you want is just plain ridiculous and very unhealthy for you.
The selection of a diet will often predict whether you will see success or failure. Avoid the above diets to protect your health.
