Miami, Florida, is well known throughout the country, but there are a number of nearby towns that offer much to see and do. It can be fun to explore these other areas to make the most of any visit to this beautiful southern city.
Ft. Lauderdale
Just a little north of Miami is the city of Ft. Lauderdale. Home to big business as well as a number of attractions, Ft. Lauderdale is a formidable city itself. It boosts much in the way of arts and culture. There is a sizable beach for people to explore. One can visit the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science to learn about the mysteries of the universe. There is an art museum as well as the Broward Theater for Performing Arts, which gets national tours on a regular basis.
Hollywood
Hollywood is between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Hollywood Beach has beautiful beaches with many Italian and Greek restaurants. Playgrounds offer much for the children, and stores tantalize shoppers. A band shell provides free music many days of the week. Parking is very low cost along the beach, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature. The city offers numerous events from St. Patrick’s Day parades to Easter egg hunts.
Pembroke Pines
Pembroke Pines is a suburban city northwest to Miami. It offers a pleasant suburban atmosphere near to the beach and big cities. They boast the Pembroke Lakes Mall as well as Pembroke Gardens, a lovely outdoor shopping and dining center. The Pembroke Pines community theater has several productions a year. The city offers a charter school program that is beneficial for residents.
Sunrise
Sunrise is home to the world-renown Sawgrass Mills Mall. This outlet mall is one of the largest malls in the country with stores including Coach, the Disney Outlet, J.C. Penney and more. They also have a full size arena that hosts world famous tours and events. Events occur throughout the year such as the expansive Woodstock Arts and Crafts Festival.
Davie
Davie is just north of Pembroke Pines and has an old west feel. They offer many stores and shopping opportunities. The Bergeron Rodeo Grounds has events throughout the year including arts and craft shows. The city puts on children’s events for holidays like Halloween and Easter.
Miami is not the only nice place to live in South Florida. The above surrounding towns provide much to residents and visitors alike. People should explore all of the attractions and restaurants to make the most of this lovely and varied area.
