Many people prefer a one story house, also known as a ranch house. There are different benefits that you will get from this style of house, including the following.
You do not have to constantly go up and down stairs
A lot of people do not like stairs. When you live in a house with multiple stories you may be going up and down all day. If you forget something upstairs then up you have to go. With a one story house it is much easier to just pop to where you need to be.
Avoiding stairs can be much more than a convenience for some people. If someone has a physical handicap, for instance, it might be a necessity. If someone is sick, it might be easier for them not to do it. Also it might make it easier if you have guests who have difficult ascending stairs.
You may feel like your house seems larger
Some people who prefer ranch houses just feel like it makes the house seem larger. When you stand in one spot and look all around you, the house might just seem like it goes on more.
It may be easier to do laundry
This depends on the house, but sometimes the laundry and the bedrooms end up on different floors. This can make it much less convenient to do the laundry since you might need to haul clothes up and down stairs. This can be time-consuming and physically difficult.
You may feel like you are closer to your children
If you have young children you may prefer for them always to be on the same story as you. If you have their door open and you are on the same story, then in most modest sized houses you should be able to hear them. If they are up the stores and in a corner, however, you may not be able to hear them.
It may be better for someone worried children could fall
Some people who have young children prefer a ranch house. They may worry about their children falling down the stairs. It is not at all uncommon for young children to fall down the stairs, and broken bones can result. With a one story house you do not need to worry about this. You do not need to bother with safety railings for the stairs and the like.
Many people prefer a one story house to one with two or more stories. The above points highlight the advantages of this style of house.
