: How to better Organize your Time by Setting Priorities

:
(434 Words)
Setting priorities can help you better organize your time and succeed at your goals. This can be extremely useful in your job setting as well as your personal life. It can also help you to cut down on stress in both the workplace and home. There are a variety of ways that you can maximize your time management skills through priorities.
Oftentimes people end up not accomplishing the things that are very important and yet get things done that really do not matter too much. For instance, you may not do that major work project that you needed to do but you may have an intricate and yet completely useless paper airplane on your desk. How does this happen? First, instead of doing the items that are of the most importance, many people instead do what is the most fun or easiest to do. They may feel that as long as they are being productive it is okay. If you are not getting the most important things done, then it is not okay however. The boss might not care about all of the little tasks that you completed if you didn’t have time for the most important.
So how do you get started? First you want to list all of the different activities that you have to do. You might want to do this on the computer so that you can easily manipulate the document. You will also want to give a time estimate or at least a range of time that you think the project will take up so that you know how long to allot to it. You then need to prioritize the items. You can number them or just move them in the document from the order of most important to the least important. You can put two together if they are equal. You can then make a schedule or “budget” of your time, focusing first on the priorities.
This document can be a fluid thing. For instance, a business project might not a be a priority if it is due in a month but as time passes it might move up in priority. Obviously items that have been finished can be checked off. Also, you will need to get to the lesser priority items at some point so you can see where you can fit those in.
With priorities you will be sure to get the things that really need to get done first so that you do not end up missing out on something important while something trivial gets attended to. Use the above tips to help accomplish this.
