(409 Words)
Going green is great for the environment and for the future. Because children will be the next generation, you want them to understand the importance of caring for the environment. One way to teach them about going green is to make a bulletin board about it. Consider the following ideas for making such a board.
Explain what “going green” means
Many students have probably heard the term going green, but they might not understand what it signifies. You can talk about how it is doing things that are good for the environment and do not hurt it. You can also discuss why it is so important to be kind to Mother Earth and how it can affect them and the rest of the world now and in the future. The children might not realize what an impact their actions can make. For instance, you can talk about the amount of water, electricity, etc. everyone uses and how they can reduce it. You can post these up in big blurbs and smaller copy.
Discuss how they and others can go green
The children might not understand what they can do in order to go green, however even young kids can make a difference. You can talk about how it is important to recycle, for instance. You can show photographs of a recycling plant on the board. You can also attach things to the board that you can recycle such as a plastic bottle. You can show a finished product that was made from a recycled item. You can also show pictures of bicycles, hybrid cars and so forth. You can also show some pictures of things that are most definitively not green such as oil spill soaked birds or litter on the beach.
Get the children involved
You want the children to take the message of growing green to heart. Perhaps they can draw pictures of things that they do or are going to do in order to be more green. You can use your bulletin board as a place to post these.
A bulletin board related to going green can be a great way to teach the students about the environment and the role they can play. Make sure that it is attractive to look at and does not contain so much that the children find it overwhelming. You can also embellish it with things like Earth and recycling symbol stickers. Utilize the above ideas when making your board.
