: Bulletin Board Ideas People in our Neighborhood

:
(402 Words)
A bulletin board can help teach children about the different people they may encounter in their neighborhood. There are many ways to make a bulletin board such as this. Consider the following ideas.
Put up pictures and descriptions of the people one might see in their neighborhood
First you can show pictures of different types of people the children may have as neighbors. You can drive home the fact that some people have neighbors who come from different countries, who look different, who speak different languages, who have different disabilities, etc. You can also show pictures and descriptions of workers someone might see such as a police officer, a construction worker, the postman, a dog walker, etc. You can also mount up different items from some of these people to make the bulletin board more interesting such as posting some envelopes that contain “letters” for the mailman, a policeman’s badge, and so forth.
Show a comic/story of someone walking in their neighborhood seeing all of the different people
A lot of kids will follow a bulletin board better if it is some sort of story. You could make it about a little boy or girl and show them as they walk around their neighborhood and say hello to their friends, the mailman, a police officer, etc.
Children can draw pictures of the people in their neighborhood to post on the board
One nice way to embellish your board and get the children interested is to have them make their own little drawings or paintings to put on the board. You can ask them to draw pictures of the people that they see in their neighborhoods such as friends or people that they see working.
Stranger danger
Of course it would be wonderful if you could just teach children about the wonderful people in the neighborhood who want to be their friends. Unfortunately, it is important to teach children about the danger of strangers, and you can include this point on the bulletin board. You can write out rules for dealing with strangers (i.e. Never go with someone you do not know, do not take candy from strangers, etc.). You can make this as large or as small a part of the board as you would like.
A bulletin board about the people in our neighborhood can be educational for children of all different ages. Use the above ideas to create your display.
