Bulletin Board Ideas Planets
Many children love astronomy, and a bulletin board about the planets can be a great way to showcase this. There are many ways to make such a board, including the following.
Make the background of the bulletin board look like the night sky
You can start off by lining the bulletin board with black or very dark blue paper. You can put in it silver glitter to make it look like the night sky. Alternatively, you might be able to get paper that already looks like the night sky.
Place in pictures of the planets
You can give the children a realistic view of what the planets look like by placing in actual photographs. You can get these from a variety of places such as the space centers, online, books, etc. You can then put in different information about the planets. How detailed you get with this information is going to depend on the age and grade level of the students. For very young kids who cannot yet read, you might just put in the names of the planets. For much older children you can talk about the mass, the distance from the sun, the climate and other interesting details. Instead of photographs you could also place in drawings or paintings.
Make your bulletin board three dimensional
This can be very easy to do with Styrofoam balls. You can often find these at craft stores such as Michael’s Arts and Crafts. You can use a knife to slice them in half. You can then attach them to the bulletin board with glue. You can paint them so that they resemble the planets. You can get different sized Styrofoam balls to represent the different sizes of the planets (although you can explain that because the planets are so different in size you will probably not be able to accurately represent their relative sizes on the board).
Make your bulletin board interactive
In addition to the images of the planets you can use the bulletin board as an interactive teaching tool. For instance, you can have trivia questions on some paper such as “What is the largest planet?” They can then lift up to reveal the answers. You can also have the children try to figure out which planet is which by its size and image.
There are many great ways that you can make a bulletin board about the planets. Consider the above ideas when making your board.
