Bulletin Board Ideas School Bus Safety
Many children ride the school bus, and it is important that they do so safely. A bulletin board can help to drive that message home and can be made in the following ways.
A comic strip about riding the bus
Older students who can read might find the bulletin board more interesting if it is in the form of a comic strip or a story. You can have the main character be a child it the same grade level as the class. They can be riding the bus. They can then show how they act in order to be safe on the bus (i.e. not yelling at the bus driver, staying in their seat, not throwing things, etc.) They can show what they do if there is some sort of problem on the bus. If you want to have a comparison to show the kids what not to do, you can show another child in the story doing the bad things and getting in trouble. You can use colorful illustrations.
Place a picture of a big bus and the bus rules on top of them
A bulletin board is a great place to put the bus rules for safety. You can write rules like “No yelling, no hitting, Stay in your seat until the bus comes to a complete stop, etc.” You can write the do’s and don’ts of being in a bus. You can also write out the consequences of disobeying the rules and why it is so important to obey them. However a lot of kids might not look twice at a bulletin board that just has writing. As the background of the board you can make it a giant school bus. You can use orange colored paper or paint it that color. You can also make it be unique by adding something that stands out. For instance, the wheels can be paper plates that are colored in black. You can put pictures of the kids in the window. One fun idea is to take pictures of the kids in the class and then put their pictures in the window.
Make the bulletin board interactive
You can have trivia questions on the bulletin board such as “When is it okay to stand?” You can also explore what the children should do in the case of an accident, fire, medical problem or other emergency on the bus.
It is important that the children learn about bus safety since it can literally prevent an accident. Consider the above ideas when designing your board.
