Advantages and Disadvantages of Buying a Pre Owned Wedding Gown
There are various advantages and disadvantages to buying a pre-owned wedding gown. Consider the reasons why you might – or might not – make this choice.
Advantages
Money
Money is probably the most common reason people cite for purchasing a pre-owned wedding gown. You can often pay just a fraction of the cost for a pre-owned wedding gown compared to what it would cost new. Once a bridal gown is worn on that single fateful day, its value drops tremendously. If you want a designer gown, you may never be able to afford the full cost, which can be in the thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. Buying a pre-owned gown might let you get the dress of your dreams at a cost you can afford.
You can specifically look for one that fits you without alterations
When you buy a new wedding gown from a store, you will most likely need alterations. Most come too long for the average woman (on the idea that it is easier to hem up then add fabric down). Alterations can cost quite a bit of money, so this can be a convenience of the pre-owned dress.
Disadvantages
Someone else wore it
A lot of women simply want to have a dress that no one else wore for their wedding ceremony. They want to think that they are the only ones going down the aisle in that particular dress. They want it to be special for them and some would feel that part of that would be taken away if they knew that someone else wore the exact same dress before them.
It might not be in perfect condition
Even if it was only worn for the one day, the bridal gown might have some signs of wear. Some of them have obvious tears, stains and damage. Even ones that don’t might not be quite the same after they were cleaned. You might be able to see the difference, or you just might be self conscious about it.
You might worry about what others think
Some women would feel embarrassed to wear a dress that someone else wore. They may not want to have to tell people that they got a dress that wasn’t new when people ask where they got their dress. They may feel that others might think less of them.
There are many places where you can purchase pre-owned wedding gowns. Many people buy them on www.ebay.com. Also, some antique stores sell them. Consider the above advantages and disadvantages to buying such a gown.
