It can be difficult to schedule a regular date night when you have kids, however it can be done. The following tips can help you accomplish the seemingly impossible.
Pick a night that will be good for both of you
If you want the date night to be regular, then find a day of the week that will usually work for both of you. Of course, some people have such hectic schedules that this is near impossible, but you can usually at least find a day that has the best chance of you both being free. Consider what is going on with your kids. If your kids usually have a lot of homework that they need your help with on that day then you might want to choose another day. Also, think about who will be watching them and make sure it is a day that they can regularly be there.
Find a great babysitter who can commit to once a week (or however regular you want it)
You want to search long and hard for a good babysitter. Some people are fortunate enough to have family like parents who would love to have a regular night with the kids. This could benefit everyone including the children who could see their grandparents. It would also save you money. There are many babysitters around who would love a steady job. Of course, make sure you find someone you trust.
If you have friends who have kids and a similar situation, then one way to save money is to switch watching each others’ kids so you each can get a regular date night. If you have a moms’ club, then you can ask there or perhaps even set something up with the members that they can contact each other if they want to switch off like that.
Consider organizations that do “Parents night out.”
Not everyone has local family or friends who can watch their kids. Instead, you might want to see if any local businesses offer some sort of parents night out program. This is common amongst gymnastics studios, museums, bounce house places and other children’s areas. They will often take children of a certain age for a period of time (say 6 to 10) on a weekend night. You pay a flat fee and the kids can play. They will often get fed. Every place has a different offer for a different price. Sometimes it is a very good deal and might be no more than you would pay an experienced babysitter. This might be a way for your children to have a great time while you get in your regular date night.
A regular date night can be extremely healthy for a relationship, especially when you are so focused on the children most of the time. Consider the above tips for scheduling such a night.
