2385 Words: 437
Losing weight can be quite the challenge. Many people choose to diet in order to accomplish their weight loss goals. Some diets work while others do not work at all or work but they are not good for you or are unsustainable. The following are some of the top diets that work.
Counting calories
One diet that works is to just control the amount of calories that you eat. If you lower your caloric intake, you are likely to lose weight. You want to be careful about this. You do not want to lower it too much. If you lower it too much, then your body can actually go into starvation mode. You could also develop an eating disorder and the treacherous health consequences if you go too far. Your recommended caloric intake is going to depend on a lot of factors including your gender, size, activity level, etc. You will want to count the calories in what you eat. For packaged foods, you can look at the nutritional information that is usually on the box, and you can do your best to estimate other foods. It may be useful to purchase a scale in order to weigh your food and make it easier to count the calories. Some restaurants will also give nutritional information, which may be useful to you. Some of these have been found to be inaccurate, however, so always take them with the proverbial grain of salt. When counting calories make sure you think about all of the components of a meal, including extra items such as sauces and butter.
Cut out foods rich in fat and sugar
If you know that you will not be able to keep up with counting calories and you have a lot of bad things in your diet, then you might want to consider taking out the bad things and replacing them with healthier items. For instance, if you have a real sweet tooth and always satiate it with junk food such as cake, ice cream, candy and more, then you might want to consider having some sweet fruit instead. You can add a tiny bit of chocolate syrup if you really have a craving. Instead of very sugary drinks full of empty calories, you could instead have water or diet drinks. You can munch on vegetables instead of chips and fries. You can ask for restaurant items that are low in butter or choose from healthier fares, which are often marked on menus. Oftentimes substituting things that you know are healthier for the bad items will cut out enough calories to help you lose the weight.
