2652 Words: 490
Maternity clothes can be quite expensive. You will often pay more than for a similar item that is not maternity. You will also have fewer choices than when you buy regular clothes. In addition, you will use these clothes for nine months or less, so some people balk at having to spend a lot of money. At the beginning of the pregnancy you might not need them, and at the end you might not even fit into half of them. However, most people simply can’t not get any, because most people will not fit into most of their clothes. The following are some ways to save money on maternity clothing.
Borrow the clothing
This can be the best way to save money because you might not have to pay anything at all. Many women save their maternity clothing while they are still planning on having more children. If you know someone who is like this, but is not currently pregnant, then you might want to consider asking her if you can borrow her clothes. Obviously, she will need to be roughly the same size as you but you might be able to get most or all of your clothes without spending a dime.
Buy pre-owned clothes
You can save a lot of money by buying clothes that are pre-owned. You might only pay a fraction of the cost. There are different places where you can find such deals. Many consignment shops sell maternity clothes. Also, there are a lot of these items on the Internet at websites such as www.ebay.com. You might be able to buy a lot of clothes, and then get all of your clothes in one shot. By doing this, you might also be able to get a very low per item cost. You also may be able to buy clothes off of a friend who is done having children but who wants to make a little from her clothes. You might also get lucky when going to a garage sale and find some there for very inexpensive.
Look at discount stores
There are many discount stores that have maternity clothing. You can look at stores such as Wal-Mart or Ross to see if they have something that might work for you.
Look on the Internet
Many websites offer maternity clothes for cheaper than you will buy at regular stores. You can do a web search. Again, ebay might be a good source.
Look for sales or clearance
Just like most items, maternity clothes do go on sales and clearance. You can consider looking for those to save money.
Wear regular clothing in larger sizes
Sometimes you might be able to buy non-maternity clothes for cheaper that will work. For instance, many people like long maxi dresses, and some of these might work even for someone who is pregnant. Also, you may have some large t-shirts or other items just sitting in your drawers that would work.
