41 Words: 8 How to Prevent Swine Flu Deaths in Adults
2532 Words: 455
Swine flu is not serious in most but deadly in some. One scary thing about it is that young healthy adults can get hit severely hard, theoretically because they did not receive partial immunity from exposure to a similar strain years ago. Fortunately, there are things that can be done to prevent swine flu deaths in adults. The following are steps that can and should be taken.
The first thing you can do to avoid swine flu in adults is to have the adults avoid getting the swine flu in the first place. There are many things that can be done to aid in this fight. One of the best weapons in the arsenal is the administration of a vaccination. The swine flu vaccine is available at many private physicians, private drugstores such as Walgreens and CVS, many pharmacies, health departments and at many community outreach events. You can get a nasal spray that gives you the virus in a live but weakened form or alternatively an injection that has the killed virus in it. Both have been shown to be highly effective (although not perfect) in preventing the swine flu. Most people can get the vaccine.
In addition to getting the vaccination, adults can stop themselves from contracting this disease in other ways as well. They should stay away from individuals who are sick, especially those whom they suspect or know have the swine flu. They should make sure to wash their hands on a regular basis. This is especially important if they are going to be eating or have their hands in their mouth. They can use hand sanitizers. They should also make sure to use cleaners in their homes, especially if someone has been sick there recently.
If an adult suspects that they have the swine flu, then they are going to want to visit their physician (unless they are in bad enough shape that they want to go directly to the hospital). The doctor may do a test to see if you have it. You should follow all instructions and take care of yourself properly. Of course, follow the common sense directions such as getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of fluids and doing everything that you would normally do. Be sure to take any medication he or she prescribes. Follow up with him if you feel that you are getting worse or are not getting better. Again, if at any point you feel that you are too ill, you should go to the hospital. Do not wait to get treatment, because that is when you could have a problem.
The swine flu can be dangerous, but if you take the proper precautions, you will minimize swine flu deaths in adults.
