It is absolutely vital for your preschooler to know that you love him or her. It will help them grow and flourish, and is important for their emotional well-being. There are many different ways to show your preschooler that you love him, and you should try many of these so that he does not have any doubts. The following are some ways you might want to share your feelings.
Tell him you love him
It is the most obvious way at all and yet some of us neglect to say “I love you” to our preschoolers It may not be because you are holding back and it doesn’t mean that you don’t, you might not just think of saying it. You should say it to your preschooler and you should say it often. Tell him that you love him and why he is so important to you. Tell him what he means to you. If he has any doubts then let him share them while you listen. Tell him that your love is unconditional and that no matter what he does, you will always love him. Some children may get confused and think that when their parents yell or get mad at them it means that they don’t love them. Make sure that he understands that this is not the case.
Read him books that deal with love
There are many books geared towards preschoolers that deal with love. Some will say how you love them no matter what they do. They may talk about how love does not go away just because a child is behaving badly or because the child gets punished. You can get one that specifically talks about Mommy or Daddy loving him, as applicable.
Lots of hugs
Even if you tell your preschooler that you love him, a child this age needs to be shown. You should hug and hold him. Especially make sure that you are there for him at times that he is sick or upset. You should be able to hold your little one and show him all of the love that you feel in your heart for him that way. Preschoolers should always be able to feel that they can go to their parents and be accepted. Sometimes a simple hug can convey what a million words cannot.
