Many kids want their own cell phone stat. They may be in high school, they may be in middle school or they may be even younger! When you are ready to take this giant step, you will want to be very careful when picking out the cell phone and plan for your child. The following are things to consider when buying these items for your child.
Protecting your child
There are different cell phones and plans that might let you protect your child and keep a close watch on whom he is calling. The different phones and carriers offer different levels of security and if you feel that your child requires this, you might want to consider getting such a plan.
Make sure that you get a plan that will be adequate for the minutes he will use (or control his minutes)
If you think that he or she will want to chat with his or her friends incessantly, then you might want to try to find a plan that has unlimited minutes. A lot of plans do offer this. Some of the cheaper more local carriers offer this but might not cover as many areas. If you do not travel with your child much, then this might be adequate.
Consider whether you want him or her to have access to the Internet
Many of the phones have Internet access. You may or may not want this. If you are worried about your child not using it responsibly, you might want to purposely not have it on the phone. If he or she really wants it, you can afford it and you are not worried that it is going to be a problem, then you might want to add it on.
Consider a family plan
Oftentimes you can save a lot of money by getting a family plan. This can really save you tremendously. There are different things you will want to think about when choosing such a plan, however. First is that the minutes are usually shared and unless you have unlimited minutes you will want to make sure that he or she doesn’t use so much that it can affect your minutes. Also, you will want to price compare the different companies because some are cheaper than others on this.
Buying a cell phone and plan for your child is something parents are having to do earlier and earlier nowadays. Consider the above tips to help you tackle this experience.
