Most of us with children have all waited in a pediatrician’s office, sitting as the minutes and then hours pass with our miserable child, as he or she is exposed to many other sick children. Obviously, this is not a scenario that many of us want to repeat over and over again. There are few pediatricians who will never have a wait because things to do come up and you want one who will be flexible with fitting people in at the last minute. Some pediatricians are much better than others, however, and offer generally low wait times in general while others might have hour-long waits as more of a rule than the exception. The following are reasons why it is important to choose a pediatrician that is prompt with appointments.
Your child will be exposed to other illnesses why they wait
Most of the time, a pediatrician’s waiting office is a hot bed for infection and illness. There are often a variety of children waiting, many with their own contagious condition. In addition, unlike adults who may be better at keeping to themselves, covering their mouths when sneezing and not putting things in their mouths, young children often do all of these things. They may be running around, touching things with hands covered in germs and so forth. The more time you spend in that waiting room with your child, who is already ill, the more chance you will have of catching something else. Of course, you and whomever else you brought with you, such as other children, will be exposed as well. The last things you want is to come back from the pediatrician’s office sicker than when you went in. This can be especially frustrating if you went in for a well visit and then came back sick. The less time you wait, the better off you will be.
Your child may be miserable and you do not want to have to have them wait and wait and wait
If your child is sick, then they might be absolutely miserable. They would be better off in home in bed instead of sitting in an uncomfortable and often cold waiting room. You want to be able to get them in and out and home as soon as possible.
You want to be able to plan other things
If you have a waiting time that can be excessive it can make it difficult for you to plan other things. Many mothers have a lot of obligations, especially those with multiple children. You want to at least have some idea of when you will be there.
For the above reasons, you may want to look for a pediatrician that is prompt with appointments.
