Checklist for Infant Travel Gear

Traveling with an infant does not typically describe traveling light. There are many different items that you will want to bring, which will be dependent upon any special needs, where you are traveling, the length of your journey and more. The following are some common items to bring.
Portable crib
Unless the location where you are staying has its own portable crib, you will need to bring one. It is not advised to sleep in the same bed with an infant as it can be dangerous. They sell many versions of portable cribs, and they generally pack up quite small. They often come with their own mattress. Some have special features such as storage pockets or a mobile.
Diaper changing supplies
One thing you do not want to run out of while on your travels are diaper changing supplies. Make sure that you have more than enough diapers. Bring along wipes and other items you may need for changing diapers such as diaper cream. There are many portable pads that you can get to make it easy to change your baby on the go.
Infant medical supplies
It is always a good idea to bring some basic medical supplies with you when traveling with a baby so you do not get stuck without it. You should bring a thermometer, for instance. You may want some basic medications such as antibiotic lotion and infant painkillers. Bring phone numbers of doctors and others you may need to call.
Feeding items
There are many different items related to feeding that you might bring on your vacation. You may even bring a portable high chair.
Toys/diversions
When traveling with a child you may need something to occupy him or her. You can purchase a portable swing, for instance, which can keep infants comfortable for a while. You can bring small toys and books. Bring whatever seems to occupy them at home.
Clothing
Make sure that you bring plenty of extra clothing, especially if you will not have access to laundry facilities. Infants will often go through many different outfits one after the next, and you want to be prepared. Consider the climate of where you are traveling. You may want to bring blankets as well.
Car seat
Many will travel with the child’s car seat, even if they are going on a plane. It is safer than holding him or her during the journey and is of course the law in most areas.
Stroller
Without a stroller you may have to hold your child a little too much. If your stroller is too big, then you can purchase a smaller or lighter one for your trip.
There are many different items you will need when traveling with your infant. Make a checklist of all of the items that you personally need so that you do not forget anything.
