(482 Words)
Is your house filled to the brink with all sorts of random items? You may be a victim of clutter, and such a mess can affect you mentally, emotionally and even physically if you take a fall because of all of the objects on the floor. It is worthwhile to do what you can to rid yourself of clutter through the following strategies.
Go through the items
There is no way around it. You need to start going through the items one by one to decide if you can get rid of anything. Think about the last time you used it and whether you think that you are going to use it again. It is understandable that it can be difficult to get rid of something that you once liked but think about what the clutter is doing to you now. Think about whether you would notice whether the item just disappeared. If the answer is no, you might want to get rid of it.
You can also look towards organizational tools to help you reduce clutter. You might be able to find some storage solutions. For instance, if you have a lot of clothing that you are storing then you can get space bags, special bags that allow you to suck out the air and store clothing and other items in a much smaller space. You can look for sets of drawers as well. If you really have a lot of items that you simply do not have room for, you could consider renting a storage space.
Some people do not want to get rid of anything because they can’t bear the idea of throwing something away. Remember that there are often other options. If it is an item such as useable clothing you might be able to donate it. Not only can you get rid of something that you do not need, but you can do some good for someone else. In addition, you may have a friend or family member who will take the items. You even might be able to make money off some of your old items by selling them at a garage sale, on ebay or to a consignment shop. Consider all of these options when looking to get rid of your items.
It is also important to keep more clutter from coming in the house. Only buy things that you need and try to resist impulse buying as much as possible. Before you purchase anything you might want to make yourself wait a certain amount of time like a day or week to see if you really want it and need it. Also before you buy anything think of a space where you can actually put it. These practices will also help your wallet.
Clutter is not healthy and should be avoided if at all possible. Consider the above tips to aid you in this.
