Creative Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

(465 Words)
Small businesses do not have the large budgets to market their products that large businesses command. Creative measures can provide substantial reach to customers, however. Companies should try a variety of strategies to promote their products and services and realize increased sales and profits.
Hold contests
People love the thought of winning thus contests can be a great marketing tool for small businesses. There are many different ways that you can hold a contest. You can allow people to enter through your website, which can draw people to it. They will then be exposed to your products and marketing materials. You can allow those who come to your store or place of business to spin a prize wheel with the possibility of winning something. You can make little scratch off “lottery tickets” with prizes. You can choose to have few larger prizes or many smaller prizes.
Provide sample products at county fairs, community festivals or other events
The possibility of this will depend on your exact business (obviously a small business that helps people create wills is not going to give out free ones). However you may be able to go to a fair or other event and give away a little of what you offer. For instance, if you are a hair salon, then you can go to a county fair and style people’s hair for free. If you have a bakery then you can give away tiny cupcakes. Although you may lose a little money on this, it is an investment, and you will hopefully see your money returned in increased business.
Social networking websites
The Internet is becoming a powerful tool for marketing for small businesses. Social networking websites are an excellent way to do this for very little money. You can make a Facebook page for your business. Post often and put up photographs.
You can also join Twitter and gain as many followers as possible. Tweet out about business products, specials, offers and events. You can also put up videos on YouTube that market your business.
Create free events at your place of business
Consider any events that may draw potential customers to your store. For instance, if you are a kid’s play space, then offer an open house one a month that parents can come for a free open gym. If you run a craft store, then you can hold a free crafting seminar.
Blog
A blog is an inexpensive way that a small business can reach their customers to promote products and services. Make sure that it is written for your core audience.
The more creative a small business is in their marketing techniques, the more they will stand out from their competitors. Try a variety of strategies and continue the ones that garner you the most business.
