Toddlers do not have long attention spans, and want to be entertained each and every second. One great way to both entertain and educate them is to use games. You will need a variety of different games to keep your little one entertained.
First, you might want to try the classic games that toddlers enjoy. Peek-a-boo is a favorite of many different toddlers. You could also play a simple game of Simon Says. This can also be a great way to get your toddler some exercise; have him or her jump around! Hot potato is fun to play. They sell a hot potato game where the potato is soft like a stuffed animal and plays the music itself.
Dancing games are a lot of fun to play with toddlers and can get him or her moving. You can play freeze dance. Put music on and then shut it off. Tell him or her to stop every time it turns off.
You can also play a game of keeping balloons in the air. Blow up 3-5 balloons. He or she will squeal with delight as you try to keep them from hitting the ground. Of course make sure that the remnants of balloons get properly discarded because they can become choking hazards.
A toddler is not too young to play sports. You can kick a soccer ball around with him or her. They make soccer nets that make fun sounds when the ball gets into the goal. They also make toddler versions of basketball hoops and baseball bats. He or she might enjoy a plastic bowling set. Hopscotch is a fun game to play with toddlers on the sidewalk.
Matching games can be both fun and educational for a toddler. You can make these yourself. Take paper and cut it into squares. You and your toddler can draw different shapes on it such as triangles and hearts. You can also make some different colors, letters or numbers. Make two of each. Turn them over and then have your toddler try to match them. Not only will your child enjoy the game, but he or she will learn about these concepts.
You can even turn cleaning into a game with your toddler. Have a race to see who can dust a counter the fastest, for instance.
Use games to entertain your toddler as well as to keep him or her busy. They can be a great tool of distraction and also teach your child about many concepts. The above games are just a few options.
