There are many opportunities for aerobic exercise at most gyms such as jogging on a treadmill, riding on an exercise bike, taking an aerobics class, climbing on a Stairmaster, etc. As your heart becomes stronger you will be at less of a risk for a heart attack. Also, exercise can help lower your blood pressure, which is linked to many dangerous conditions like heart disease, stroke and more.
It can help you lower your weight and give you all of the health benefits thereof
Being overweight or obese as many Americans are can significantly increase your risk for a wide range of dangerous health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke and even cancer. It is very important to get your weight under control, and a gym membership can help you to do this. As you work out at the gym, you will burn calories. This will help you keep your weight lower. In addition, you may be inspired to eat healthier because you are working out so hard at the gym and might just be in a healthier frame of mind.
You can build muscle
Muscle can be very good for you. For instance, fat near your belly can be particularly dangerous and you can replace it with muscle. Muscle burns calories at a quicker rate than does fat so it might also help you will your weight. Also weight bearing exercises can help people with conditions such as osteoporosis.
It can help your mental health
A lot of people focus on the physical benefits of a gym membership but it can also improve your mental health. When you exercise your body releases helpful hormones that can make you feel calmer and happier. For some people with depression or anxiety, they find that this can really make a difference in how they feel. Even people without these conditions may just feel better in general. You also may feel good about yourself, and being at a better weight may also help self-esteem as well.
