Many people suffer from sinus pressure. This can be excruciatingly painful, but you may want to avoid medicines because of their side effects and drawbacks. Fortunately, there are a variety of home remedies that help relieve sinus pressure.
Breath hot steam
A lot of people find that breathing in hot steam can help to open up their nasal passageways and relieve sinus pressure. You can buy small devices that produce steam. You can also make a cup of steaming water in the microwave or on the stove and breathe it in. Alternatively, you can turn on a hot shower and just inhale it.
Take a hot shower
Many people find that going into a shower and letting the hot water run over their head and nose can help to relieve some nasal pressure. You might also feel relaxed while in the shower, which might also distract you and help to make the pain feel more bearable. Obviously you will get the added benefit of the steam as described above.
Consume spicy foods
Many people find that their noses drain if they eat something particularly spicy. Of course, there are many different foods that fit this bill, and as your nose drains you may find that some of the pressure in your nose has lessened.
Alternate hot and cold compresses
Some people find that they can make address sinus pressure by alternating hot and cold compresses on their nose or where the pressure is located. This might help to drain the nasal passages. You can get a hot washcloth and one that is cold and put each one on for one to three minutes. You can do this several times, and you might find that you start to feel better.
Saline nasal spray
Saline nasal spray does not have medication in it (make sure to buy the one that does not have the medicine if this is what you desire). Instead it can help you to clear those sinuses as you breathe in the liquid. Also, they sell nasal irrigation systems that you can do at home. Many people swear by these as a great way to help relieve nasal pressure.
Sometimes it is not one home remedy that works but a variety of different measures that might help to relieve your sinus pressure. Of course if your pressure is being caused by something specific such as an allergy, then you should try to get away from the allergens that can trigger it. Also, as much as possible try to distract yourself from the pain because that might help you feel better as well.
