How Students Influence the Education Process
(416 Words)
In a variety of ways, students influence the education process. They can help shape their own learning, either hampering or helping it. It is vital for students to understand the difference that they can make so that they can make the most of their education.
Students will often get blatant offers to influence the education process. Teachers may ask for input from students on the ways that they learn best. Also researchers conduct studies to find out the best ways that students learn. All of this information is utilized to create lesson plans that provide the most constructive learning opportunities.
Students tend to learn the best by being actively involved. Modern teachers therefore have moved somewhat away from the lecture process to create active discussions and hands-on processes.
Of course individual students can help their own education by actively participating in class. When they take part in class discussions and both ask and answer questions, then they are more likely to pick up the information. The teachers might also become more encouraged and work harder to teach.
Students should not feel like they are without power when it comes to their educations. Many teachers welcome comments from the students as do administrators (if it is done appropriately and tactfully of course). They can talk about the projects they feel are the most helpful in teaching them. Students can ask for a meeting between themselves and their teachers. They may also be able to have a stronger impact if they get involved in student government or another such group.
Students respond differently to different methods of teaching. If they are more enthusiastic about one method such as a fun class project then the teachers may recognize this and be more likely to use it again in the future.
Of course it is important for students to do their work. If they do not, then the education process can be slowed down, and students may not realize their full potential.
The behavior of the students plays a large role in the education process, and unfortunately it is often negative. If the students talk or are disruptive, then the teacher will have to take time away from teaching in order to discipline. Students may miss out on lessons and learning because of their poor behavior.
Students play much more of a role in the education process than they realize. They should try to do the work and speak up if they feel that they can make a positive impact.
