University can cost tens of thousands of dollars or more. Fortunately, there are many ways that you can save money, depending on your skills and the university that you are going to. The following are ways you might be able to afford this.
Try to get scholarships
You can save a lot of money by getting a scholarship. The school will often give out merit or financial need based scholarships. You should talk to a financial aid officer to see what you might be available for. In addition, when you are in high school, there is a usually a counselor who can give you a good idea of some scholarships. Apply for as many as you can. The state will also often give some based on things like SAT scores, grade point average and financial need. Also, oftentimes companies will give them to the children of their employees so you might be able to save money that way.
Get a loan
You may be able to afford college if you get some sort of loan. You will have to pay it back but they often come with unbelievably low interest rates. You can talk to a financial advisor about this as well.
Work
A lot of schools offer assistantships where you can work at the school and save money. You might be able to work as a teacher assistant and help run the class or grade papers. You might be able to work as a room assistant and live in a hall and help the freshmen and new students. They also have graduate assistantships. They might give you a stipend or just give you a discount on classes.
You can also look to getting a regular job. There are often many part time jobs near and on campus. You can also look to doing some freelance work if you have some skills such as writing for www.helium.com.
Save money on room or board
If you get a roommate you might be able to save a lot of money on your room. You can look on campus at the less expensive accommodations. You can also look to save money on food by cooking yourself and eating in rather than always spending a lot of money to eat out.
