(517 Words)
Stress is neither good for a pregnant woman nor for her unborn baby. Many find pregnancy to be stressful, and although you cannot avoid every concern, there are different steps that can help you avoid the majority of it. Try the following ideas.
Try relaxation techniques
Different relaxation techniques can help a woman feel calm. They can make the things that might make you stressed seem less important. There are many different techniques. One idea is to get regular massages. Many women just feel calmer after these. You can try mediation, either on your own or through a class. There are many tapes you can buy. You can also just make time to relax. It may be about reading a fun book or a silly movie. Do what makes you calmer, and you may be able to better handle stressors that come your way.
Do not read about everything that can go wrong
Many expectant mothers drive themselves crazy by reading about every single thing that can go wrong with the pregnancy and birth. Although problems happen, most women go on to have relatively healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. Do not read about every problem and diagnose yourself with them. If you are worried about something, call a professional.
Exercise
Many women find that exercise provides great stress relief, among other physical benefits. Check with your doctor to make sure it is okay, but most women can and should implement a regular exercise program.
Do not be afraid to call your doctor
Some women get stressed because they worry about symptoms they are experiencing but do not call their doctor because they are afraid to “bother” him or her. Your doctor is being paid a lot of money to assist you, and they set up a phone system for a purpose. You may feel much calmer after a quick call to check up on something concerning you.
Stay away from stressors
Most people have something that stresses them. It may be a certain person or a place. Stay away from these to the extent possible while you are pregnant. If you need to work on something or fix a relationship, then consider doing so after the pregnancy.
Do not overdo it
Many pregnant women feel like they have to be superwomen. They may try to continue with the same schedule they had before they became pregnant but that is often not possible. You may need to work at your job less. You may not be able to say yes to every favor. Listen to your body and emotions, and if you feel like you are overworked, then it is okay to wipe some activities from you schedule.
Look for support
You may be less stressed if you have someone who can help you stay calm. Try to find a friend, family member or loved one who can help you stay relaxed. They may be able to distract you or just lighten the mood.
It is important to avoid stress for your health while pregnant. The above methods may help you remain calm and focused on the positives.
