A great way to welcome students back to school are to have innovative and fun classroom door decorations. There are many different ways that you can decorate a door, and how you do it will depend on the age of the students as well as what type of class you are teaching. Consider the following ideas.
“Blast off into school!”
A lot of students like the idea of the stars and blasting off into space. You could cover your door with dark blue construction paper or poster board to simulate the night sky. You can then use silver glitter to make the stars. Alternatively you can buy stick on glow-in-the-dark stars. You can then put in different pictures of the planets. You can show a shuttle launching and at the top say something like “Let’s blast off into learning!”
“Welcome to school!”
You can put in a variety of school themes on your classroom door. For instance, you can put in a picture of a school bell, an old one story school house, notebooks, pencils, A+ and more. You can find a lot of cutouts like these from school supply stores or you can print out pictures or make your own.
Relate it to the subject
If you are teaching a specific subject, then your classroom door decorations can mirror that. For instance, if you are teaching math, then you can put a plus sign, a fraction and bunch of numbers. If you are teaching geography, then you can cover the door in maps. If you are teaching history, then you could put in pictures of famous rulers from the past. If you are teaching science, then you can put in pictures of microscopes, test tubes and more. You can make these from construction paper or you can print them out from the Internet. Alternatively you can cover the door in paper from a roll or poster board and then paint or draw these images on.
“Set sail on learning”
A lot of students love the water. You can make a sea theme for your classroom door decoration. You can use blue tissue or construction paper to simulate the sea. You can put in pictures of different fish. You can have a great ship. The title at the top can say “Set Sail on learning.”
Classroom door decorations can make a classroom lively from the first moment you walk in the door. Consider the above ideas when creating your display.
