Preschoolers can learn about their school through a bulletin board. This is especially useful near the beginning of a school year or for children who are just starting a new preschool. There are many different ways that one can construct such a board.
“Parts of my school” bulletin board
You can focus the bulletin board on the different areas of the school. The children may not be aware of all of the resources available to them. Be sure to use a lot of pictures because most preschoolers have not yet learned how to read. You can also use simple words if they are learning to read.
There are many areas of the school that you should include. You can place in pictures of the library, the cafeteria, the playground, the classrooms and more. You can also put in three dimensional items to make the bulletin board “pop” more such as plastic play food near the picture of the cafeteria.
“Story about the school” bulletin board
The children can learn about their school through a story. The main character can be a little girl or boy on the first day of school. In six different frames shown like a little comic strip, have the character go to the different parts of the school where he or she meets friendly characters that teach about what the school offers.
Get the children involved
The children may like the bulletin board better if they are involved in its creation. There are various ways to include them. You can also ask the children to draw their favorite areas of school. They can paint or draw pictures of what they like to do best at school.
Create an attractive display
No matter which of the above ideas you choose, you want your board to be attractive. Use an educational border such as one that contains the letters of the alphabet or numbers. You can place in pictures or mount actual items that relate to school such pencils, crayons, “You did it!” stickers and more. Let the kids help to put them up.
