You may envision slippers in one shape and size, however there are actually many different types of slippers. These range in comfort, look, price and more, according to Dearfoams, a large manufacturer of slippers.
Ballet
If you want something very sweet and feminine, choose a ballet slipper. These look like a little girl’s ballet shoes. Usually they do not have a heel and may also be known as ballet flats. They are small and easy to store. They usually have thin soles.
Boot
If you want something that provides more coverage, consider a boot. Not only does this cover the foot, but it typically goes up the leg as well. Boot slippers may be very large and bulky, but unlike a traditional boot will be very soft and cushiony. These are good for cold weather wear.
Bootie
A bootie providers coverage for the entire foot, but unlike a boot, do not cover the leg as well. They are also good when the weather is cooler.
Clog slippers
Clog slippers are very easy to don because they do not have backs. Except for the backs, they tend to provide decent coverage for the rest of the foot. The heel can be thin or thick depending on the style.
Moccasin
Moccasin slippers generally cover the toes and have a heel that is closed. They are easy to put on and off, but do not slip off easily since they go around the entire foot.
Open-toe or peep-toe
One of the most popular types of slippers and the one that comes to mind for most people are the open toe or peep-toe slippers. These slippers allow the feet to slide through and the toes are uncovered. They do not usually have backs. These are great because they protect the bottom of the feet but are extremely comfortable because they do not cover most of the foot. They are good for when the weather is warm such as in the summer.
Scuff
Scuff slippers can be open or closed at the toe. They may also be known as bedroom or house slippers or as flat mules. They are similar to clogs but with slightly less coverage on the foot.
Thong
Also known as flip-flops, thongs have no backs but instead boast a strap that goes between the big toe and the second toe. The slipper versions tend to be much more cushiony than the popular version one might wear to the beach.
There are many different types of slippers. Try on the different pairs to find what is most comfortable for you.
