You may have an upcoming formal occasion but only a simple dress. You may not want to splurge on a more formal dress for a single occasion, and fortunately you do not need to. There are many ways that you can spruce up a simple dress, including the following methods.
Wear very fancy jewelry
Expensive or formal jewelry can make a look seem much more formal. Take the same dress and put it with pearls, instead of a casual seashell necklace, and you will have an entirely different look. If you do not have the money for a $5,000 diamond necklace, then that is okay. Run to an accessory store such as Claire’s, or a department store such as Macy’s, and look for the pretty faux diamond jewelry. They have all different types, from necklaces to bracelets to rings and more. You can also add a crystal piece for your hair as well.
Add pantyhose and high heels
A simple dress might look a lot of more formal if you put on pantyhose and some killer high heels. You can look for shoes that are particularly fancy such as those that have Swarovski crystals on them. Of course, make sure that the shoes go with the dress.
Add a fancy wrap or scarf
Again, you are going to want to make sure that it matches. There are many fancy scarves and wraps that can be purchased on their own at department stores. A lot of them are made with chiffon and have beading on them. You can wear them in different ways; you can wrap it around your neck; you can wrap it around your waist, or you can just have it draped over your shoulders. You can use a wrap to cover up a lot of the torso portion of your simple dress and it might appear a lot more elegant. Alternatively, if the fit of the dress is right, then you could add a fancy belt. For instance, a simple black dress might look great with a fancy gold belt.
Add a shrug or a dinner jacket
You can purchase a shrug or dinner jacket separately from dresses. They sell many that are of fancier materials like satin or chiffon. A lot of them also have embellishments like sequins, glitter, beads or crystals.
The above tactics may help you when trying to make a simple dress fancier. If one method does not seem to be enough, then consider combining them until you get the look that you want.
