A bulletin board about people who keep us safe can be an important teaching tool for children in a primary school classroom. Consider the following ideas for creating such a board.
Post up dolls or figures representing the different type of people who keep us safe
You want the bulletin board to draw the children’s attention, and one way to do that is to post more than just flat papers and pictures. You can find some small dolls such as Barbie dolls dressed up as the people who can help keep you safe such as a policeman, fireman, lifeguards, etc. You can then place information about what these different people do. The students might be more likely to be interested in the bulletin board if it is more unique.
Place up uniforms of those who can help
Another item that you can post up that can help to showcase those who keep up safe is to put up some life-size or miniature uniforms of those people. For instance, if attaching an actual Barbie doll seems too difficult, then you can find one that is a police officer and just attach that uniform. You might also be able to attach a costume of a firefighter. You can then include the information there as well.
Discuss what it takes to become one of these professionals.
A lot of primary school students think about what they might want to do for a career when they are older. You can use your bulletin board to discuss how you can get a career in a job that helps keep others safe. For instance, you can talk about the training that is involved in the police or fire academy. You can discuss the different steps they take to get into one of these fields.
Discuss details about the jobs
You can talk about the actual jobs. The children may know that a firefighter puts out fires, for instance, but many firefighters do a lot more such as help people in accidents. You can make a list of their roles. You can also talk about the different types of positions such a street police officer, a resource officer at a school, a detective, etc.
Place pictures of the professions in action
You can post up actual photographs of rescue divers, the military, firemen, and others who help. Alternatively, you can have the kids draw pictures of them and post those up.
You want the bulletin board to educate the students about who can keep them safe. Consider incorporating the above ideas when crafting your board.
