How to Make a Bed

Do you just throw your cover onto your bed when you wake in the morning, leaving a crumpled, rumpled mess? If you learn how to make a bed properly, then you can get accustomed to doing it and can always have an attractive bed. Take the following steps to make your bed the right way.
If you have a mattress pad, then this is first. Many of these are fitted and will thus have an elastic edge, which can be secured around the bed. Spread it out so that there are no wrinkles. Attach it fully if it is elastic, pulling it tight on every corner and side so that there are no lumps.
Next you will add the fitted sheet. Carefully spread it out, making sure not to wrinkle the mattress pad underneath it. Pull it tightly on every side and corner so that is goes down as much as it can and has the lowest risk of coming up.
Now you need to add the top sheet. Spread it fully with the large hem side near the top. The very top of the sheet should be at the mattress head.
Spread the blanket over everything. Instead of bringing your blanket all the way up, place it approximately six inches down.
Go to the bottom of the bed and take the end of the sheet. Tuck any excess amount underneath the mattress, smoothing it out so that it is not bunched up. Make hospital corners on each bottom corner. Start by grasping the sheet hanging down approximately 16 inches from the bed’s bottom. Tuck the sheet into the corner under the mattress. Move up to the head of the bed, tucking the sheet tightly under the mattress. Do the same on the other side of the bed.
Go to the top of the blanket and take the top of the sheet. Fold the hem down on top of the blanket. Fold both for four more inches and then once more. If there is any fabric on the sides, tuck it in.
Add the pillow at the top. If you have a sham or dustcover, add that first. If you have a comforter, simply place it on top of the bed. You may have a set that has a matching comforter and sham.
A properly made bed looks attractive. When you get in the habit of always doing it, you will become effective and efficient at the practice.
