Contact your phone company to see the different rates
Sometimes the phone company will offer a special flat per month fee to give you a much better rate to a certain country. You should call them to find out what the base rate is to that country and if there are any ways that you can make it cheaper for yourself. Sometimes they will even have options that allow you to call a country such as England for free for a low monthly rate. Think about how long you will be on the phone to these countries and how much the per minute rate decrease is. If you use a cell phone, then you can call the company to see what their different rate options are.
Use the Internet
Many people are now using the Internet to make calls, even for free. For instance, you can use the service of Skype to make video calls to other computer. It does not cost anything and can allow you the freedom talk for as long as you want. There are many other services that allow you to call through the Internet so you can do a Google search online to see what is available and what people like.
