Cravings are the downfall of many a weight-loss hopeful. You may be doing great on your diet, but then you see that piece of cake. The piece of cake calls your name, enticing you to take just a single bite. Suddenly the cake is gone and so are your weight loss goals for the day. Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to combat this. Consider the following weight loss tips on how to ignore your cravings.
Distract yourself
Sometimes the best way to ignore your cravings is to become so distracted with something else that you do not think of them. If you are just thinking about a certain food then perhaps you can call a friend whom with you always have a lively conversation. Perhaps you can watch a funny movie or read an engaging book. You might exercise or play a sport, which can further help you with your weight loss goals.
Do not tempt yourself
Sometimes the best way to ignore cravings is to stay away from the foods. If you have a house filled with chocolate, cakes, candy and unhealthy foods, then it can be difficult ignore your cravings. If you keep healthy food around the house, then this can help.
Keep yourself full on healthy food
We often crave unhealthy food when we are hungry. Just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean that you have to be hungry. When you do get hungry eat food that is good for you such as fruits and vegetables. Without being hungry your cravings might have much less of an edge.
Give yourself a small measured amount of the craving so that it does not overpower you
Let’s say that you crave chocolate. All day and night it is all you can think of. If you completely try to ignore it, then you might never be successful. One idea is to allow yourself to have something else that is related to it. For instance, there are different diet chocolate desserts that have a very small amount of calories. This might satisfy your cravings enough so that you do not have more. Also, some people who like chocolate might let themselves have three chocolate chips a day. The amount of calories in that is very little, however it might satisfy the craving and allow you to easily ignore future ones.
Cravings can be difficult when on a diet, but you do not have to give in to them. Consider the above tips to help ignore them.
