A birthday party can be great fun for young children. The following is a guide on preparing such a party.
First decide on the logistics
Think about where you are going to have your party. A lot will have it at their homes but you can also consider a park, community center or one of the many places that throw them. Make sure there is enough room for everyone to fit. Decide whom you are going to invite and how big you want it to be. Make a budget so that you do not overspend. Get the invitations ready. You can send out paper ones or send out electronic ones such as evite, which is very convenient.
Next decide if you want a theme for the party
A lot of little kids like certain characters such as the Disney Princesses, Mickey Mouse or Dora the Explorer. You can find party supplies and decorations that go along with these. Other decorations have generic themes such as trains, animals or butterflies. You can go to the party store or look for a source that sells party supplies like Oriental Trading Company on the Internet and purchase the supplies from there. You might want to get wall decorations, a table cloth, paper plates, paper cups, dessert plates, napkins, and more. If you want to save money you can look at less expensive sources like the Dollar Tree or alternate the character supplies with plain colored supplies that match.
Decide on the food
You will want to think long and hard about the food you will serve for your party. Remember that young children can be picky, so you might want to have some of the commonly enjoyed foods like pizza. You can also put out snacks like chips or fresh or dried fruit. For children of this age you might even put out some kids’ cereals like cheerios. You also might want to get some juice boxes for the kids to easily drink. Think about how to serve the food. For instance, you may want to double cut the pizza so they are in smaller slices. Also be sure to take into account any dietary restrictions that the children have such as vegetarian, gluten free, allergies, etc.
Decide on the activities
Young children can get bored very quickly so you will want to think of some fun activities for the kids to do. A lot of kids love piñatas. Also, you can hire someone like a clown or a magician to come in. You can also buy or rent a bounce house to keep the children entertained. You can have party games like pin the tail on the donkey, ring toss or sack races. You can find the materials for these games at Party City. You can also play musical chairs, freeze dance or duck duck goose. You can buy little prizes from the dollar store to give out.
When the children go home you can give them a little favor bag filled with age appropriate toys. With careful preparation you can have a great kids’ birthday party!
