: How to Save Money on School Lunches
:
(404 Words)
Every day you send your child to school with lunch, and if you can save just a little on these then you will save a lot as time goes on.Try the following money-saving strategies.
Make the lunches yourself instead of buying prepackaged items
You often pay far more for items that are prepackaged than if you were to do the work yourself. Oftentimes the work isn’t even that much, especially if you do it all at once. For instance, you may pay a lot more for apple slices than you would to slice an apple yourself. The few seconds it takes to slice an apple might be worth the money. Premade sandwiches are also often more. You can make several at one time to make it easier on yourself and give yourself the convenience of just being able to grab and go.
Buy in bulk
You can often save money by buying larger quantities of items. For instance, instead of buying the yogurt tubes, you can buy a big tube of yogurt and put them in containers. Instead of tiny bags of chips, buy big bags and put them in reusable containers. It is also good for the environment to have less waste, especially of the plastic variety. You will often find bulk items at stores like Costco.
Buy on sale
You will find many different sales that can save you money on school lunches. Popular grocery stores like Publix Supermarkets have many such sales that give you an item free when you buy one. You should stock up on items that last a long time.
Use coupons
You will find many coupons for different food items in places such as the Sunday newspapers. Use these to save even more.
Look for cheaper sources of food
Different stores offer food for less. For instance, if you need to get something that is the complete prepackaged lunch then you could consider Publix, which now offer kids’ meals for $3.99. These include a main dish like a sandwich or a wrap, several side dishes like cheese, carrots and yogurt, and a drink. This is much cheaper than a lot of other prepackaged meals you will find. Target also has a lot of such premade foods. You can also just look for cheaper sources of foods like Costco.
Saving money on school lunches is an admirable goal. The above methods may be useful in reaching this goal.
