How to Stop Binging
(393 Words)
You’ve formulated the best diet in the world, the one that will finally get rid of those stubborn pounds. You follow it 95 percent of the time, but then you go on a binge, and suddenly weeks of hard work vanish into thin air. There are various steps that you can take to both prevent binges and stop one in progress.
Do not keep junk food around
If you know that you can’t stop at just one potato chip, as the saying goes, then consider keeping them out of the house. You cannot splurge on junk food if it isn’t there. Do not buy them, and avoid restaurants where you know that you might overindulge. Order healthy foods when you’re out eating.
Use smaller plates
You may binge because you fill your plate with too much food and then feel like you have to eat everything. Studies have shown that smaller plates cause people to eat less food.
Do not completely deprive yourself
If you cut out all sweets or all of one food group, you may start to crave them. Of course you need to be smart about what you eat. Some chocolate lovers will allow themselves three chocolate chips for a little dessert, for instance. This might be enough to satisfy them but not enough to do any lasting damage. Without that, they may instead choose to eat three candy bars.
Keep healthy foods on which to binge
If you want to eat and eat and eat then get foods with which you can do exactly that. Look to vegetables such as broccoli, lettuce and carrots. There are a wide variety of vegetables that have so few calories, you could eat them without doing any damage. In fact, they are good for you and will help with your diet.
Stop a binge in progress
Some people can’t stop a binge once they start. They get in the mindset that they have already ruined the diet so why stop. Instead, realize that you can stop. A small binge will not hurt nearly as much as a large one.
Find distractions
Do something else when you start thinking about binging. Read a favorite book or watch a favorite show. Go out or call a friend.
Binging does not have to derail your diet. Try the above strategies to keep your diet on track.
