How to Succeed in your first Job

Success in your first job can be the springboard to a great career. Different actions can help to promote this success. The following are some tips to achieve this.
Follow the rules
It is important to do what you are supposed to at your first job. Come in on time. Do not leave early. Take only your allotted lunch hour and breaks. Do not call in sick if you are not sick. Adhere to the dress code. You do not want to give them any reason to get miffed at you. Make sure assignments are handed in without delay. Make sure that you stay on task and are not wasting time on the Internet or personal phone calls.
Go above and beyond
Do more than you are supposed to. Even showing up a little early or staying a little late can make a difference to a boss. If you can, hand in your work a little earlier than you are supposed to. If they need someone to work on a more difficult or less desirable project then volunteer. Do all you can to make your work sparkle.
Be nice to people
It is amazing how much further you can get in your job – and in life – by being kind to people. Of course you will want to be nice to your boss, but it is also worthwhile to be kind to your coworkers and also often people who are under you (although you still may need to be firm). Always treat others with respect. A lot of times it is these friends who might help you move up in the future.
Be confident but not arrogant
You want to be confident in your job. They would not have hired you if they did not think that you could do it. You should believe it to. Do not be afraid to talk to the big boss. Do not let others intimidate you. If you show that you want to move up and you believe that you deserve it, then they might be more likely to think so too. On the other hand, you should not come across as arrogant. You do not want to be thought of as a “know-it-all.”
Learn
Use your time at work wisely. Learn all you can. If you are interested in moving up, then learn how people do this. Find out about the business.
You want to succeed at your job, no matter what it is. Consider the above ideas when trying to make a successful path at your initial position.
