How to Tactfully Hint at Gifts you want

If you fear getting a tie-dyed light-up back scratcher again as a gift this year, then you may want to hint to your loved ones of some gifts that you would enjoy. Of course you do not want to come right out and say “Can you get me this…” Use the following tips to tactfully share what you want.
Mention how much you like the item
You want to bring the person to thinking about the potential gift. You could simply mention your admiration for a product. For instance, you could say “Have you seen those new towels that have come out lately?” You can talk about what is great about them. You can also mention that you do not have them yet. Never bring up the point of you wanting them as a gift, but just talk about how you like them.
Sometimes it is not a specific item that you mention but instead a certain type or category. For instance, if you love the New York Jets sports team and would like anything revolving around that, then you can talk about how much you like the team and enjoy their products.
Discuss a need that you have
You do not have to talk about the specific item that you want but instead the need that you have. For instance, if you want someone to purchase you some new clothing, then you can discuss how you do not have enough clothing and how you could really use more. You can say how you have to do laundry way too often. If you want a new blender, you can talk about how old yours is and how you wish you had one that was faster and had more speed options. Hopefully they will connect the fact that you have a need and turn it into a gift.
Discuss a present someone else got
If someone else got a present and you wish you had gotten it as well, then bring this up as your hint. You can talk about how you admire them and how you are jealous. If there is a reason you cannot get it for yourself such as if you just cannot justify splurging then mention that too and hopefully they will splurge for you.
Of course a great way to share the gifts you desire with your loved ones is to make a wish list at a source such as www.amazon.com. Some people would prefer to buy a present off of something like that anyways. Otherwise use the above strategies to hint at gifts you want without creating a faux pas.
