Ideas for Crafts to Celebrate the Royal Wedding

(460 Words)
Preschoolers love to imagine that they can fly, soaring through the sky like a bird or a superhero. A preschool bulletin board can bring these flying animals and objects to life. Use your creativity to create a board the children will love.
Piloting a plane bulletin board
Preschoolers will be excited to feel like a pilot themselves. The bulletin board can look like the cockpit of an airplane. Take a drawing of a cockpit and try to recreate it. You can even make it three dimensional. Use art supplies to make levers and buttons that actually come out from the board and can be pushed.
Have a big windshield from the “plane” and utilize this to teach students about other objects that fly. For instance, you can put in drawings or photographs of different types of birds. You can show other objects that fly such as kites, hot air balloons and blimps.
Create a story
Preschoolers love stories. You can turn your bulletin board into a story about things that fly. You can even turn it into one big “book.” Take pieces of paper that are half as large of the bulletin board and affix them in the middle so that they become the pages of the book. Create a story with pictures that shows a character looking at the sky and seeing all different things that fly. You can “read” the story to the children.
If you do not want the complexity of pages that turn, you can make it into a comic strip about flying objects. You may have a character with whom the preschoolers are familiar. The character can go on an adventure atop a bird, in a spaceship, piloting a plane, etc.
Student involvement
Preschoolers love to actively take part in decorating their environment. Let them help create the bulletin board, and they will like it all the more. The background of the board can be blue with cotton for wispy white clouds. Individuals or groups of children can create art projects of different items that fly. For instance, one group can make an art project of a hot air balloon using construction paper and different embellishments. Another group can use features to make a mixed-media picture of a bird. Post all of the pictures up and show them flying through the sky.
Pin up items that fly
You can also pin up actual items that fly. For instance, you can mount a kite, a Frisbee and a doll of a bird. Let the children come in with items for show and tell, which you then place up.
A bulletin board based on things that fly can be great fun for preschoolers. Try one idea or combine them for a board that is full of flavor.
