Great Things to do with Kids on the Weekend
There are many great things to do with kids during the weekend. Consider the following ideas.
Camping trip
A camping trip can be a great way to spend quality time with the kids during the weekend. When you are at home, your quality time might be interrupted by the television, computer, phone, friends, etc. When you go camping you can ban all electronics if you want (unless in the case of a true emergency). Instead you can spend quality time telling stories, going hiking, learning some fun skills like building a fire and tying knots, going swimming, cooking over a campfire, gazing at the starts and just talking. It can be a special time to spend together and it does not generally cost a lot of money to do.
Sports
You can get the children active during the weekend. For instance you can go on a family bowling trip, which can be fun. You might find a league for the family. You can also just play a game of catch or let your children try to hit a baseball. You can get a basketball hoop or find some tennis, racquetball or paddleball courts. Not only can this be quality time but it can also teach the kids about the importance of exercise and staying fit.
Visit a local park or nature center
Many people spend so much time at malls that they forget about all of the beautiful natural areas. You might have a park that you can go to where you can canoe or go boating. Look around to see what is offered at the local parks to you.
Festivals, attractions
In many places there are different festivals and attractions going on throughout the year. You can take your child to a zoo or museum, for instance. You can go to a county fair, an arts and craft fair or a Renaissance fair when it is in town. Look in the newspaper to see what is going on at any given weekend. Also, go with your child to what they love. If there is a performer that they have been dying to see, then go to the concert with them. Make sure that they know that what is important to them is important to you.
There are many great things to do with the kids during the weekend. The important thing is that you do something and that it is quality time. Even if you stay in the house and play board games, that can be very special. It does not have to cost money to be nice for you and for the children. Consider the above ideas when planning your family weekends.
