Plastic Surgery should you always Trust your Doctor

(415 Words)
Patients want to put all of their trust into their plastic surgeons, hopeful that any problem will be immediately resolved with grace and confidence. Even the best of doctors are human, however, and humans make mistakes. It is important to think for yourself and understand that you cannot always trust your doctor.
It is vital to search for a plastic surgeon that you can trust to the greatest extent possible. However, even with a great surgeon you need to be a wise consumer of medical services. You also need to trust your own instincts. If there is something that you do not like, then you need to know that it is okay to speak up or seek further help.
Plastic surgery has the same serious risks that other medical procedures carry. These include life-threatening infections, blood clots and even death. If you are experiencing any symptoms that make you uncomfortable, then you want to make sure to get them checked because being proactive can literally save your life. Some doctors do not give their patients’ concerns enough attention. If you feel like this is happening, then it is time to go for a second opinion.
Some patients feel too guilty to go for a second opinion, almost like they are betraying their doctors. You are not betraying anyone by asking for a second opinion. Even if you do trust him, it is still okay to get something checked further. It is your life, and you want to be comfortable.
There have been so many cases where people suffered injury or even death despite warning signs that could and should have spurred action. Because so many doctors do make mistakes, you should not just blindly trust him or her.
Another reason to not just blindly trust is because of the importance in timing in medical issues. An example is if you do not feel good because you have a post-surgery infection. If the doctor does not do anything about it, that infection could get worse and even threaten your life. A simple course of antibiotics might have easily solved the problem before it got to that point.
Medical malpractice occurs every day, and a great deal of it is in the plastic surgery area. There are certain physicians that have numerous problems. Even if you have the greatest plastic surgeon in the world, you still need to trust your instincts. Never be afraid to go for a second opinion if you are not happy with something.
