Inexpensive Winter Crafts for Kids
A craft can be a fantastic way to commemorate the winter season. There are many fun crafts that can be made with very little money.
Snowflake
You may want to have your child design his or her own snowflake. They can take a piece of white construction paper and fold it over many times. They can then take scissors and make little cuts all along the sides. When they unfold it, it will look like a snowflake. In a class full of students each one will look unique. They can leave it as it is or you can have them color it or add embellishments such as glitter. They can punch a hole in the top and add a string so that they can hang it. Alternatively, you can have them make a bunch of mini-snowflakes, attach each to a string and then hang all of them from a hanger for a winter snowflake mobile.
Snowman picture
Kids can make a 3D snowman picture. They will need a piece of construction paper. You might want to get light blue to resemble the sky. You can get them glue or paste and cotton balls. They can then glue down the cotton balls into the shape of a snowman. They can also add other items such as real twigs for the arms and pieces of cloth for the mittens and for the scarf. You have to pay very little to make such a craft.
Winter picture frame
First the children can make a picture frame with popsicle sticks. With a little glue they can glue them together to make a small rectangular frame. They can then take markers or paints to design a winter scene on it. They could draw snowflakes, snowmen or whatever other winter themed item they want. They can then put in a photograph of them enjoying the winter season.
Winter bookmark
The children can make a winter bookmark. You can purchase some thick paper. The children can decorate it with winter stickers or paint it with a winter theme. At the top they can punch a hole and add a tassel if desired. You can also laminate them to make them more durable.
If you are creative you can find many great crafts for the winter that fit a tight budget. Make sure to do something that is appropriate for the age of the child. Try the above craft ideas with your children or students.
