Lawn care can be very expensive, especially during the summer. Depending on the service that you get and the products that you use, you might spend a great deal of money. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of things that you can do in order to conserve funds. The following are tips for saving money on lawn care this summer.
Do it yourself
Many people hire an expensive service to mow their lawn or perform other lawn care services. If you want to save money, you can choose to do these activities yourself. Obviously, you might need to buy some machinery such as a lawn mower if you do not already have one, but it will probably pay for itself as time passes. There are some things better suited to a professional, but a lot of lawn care is simple but hard work. If you think that you can handle it, you might be able to remove a fairly hefty bill by doing the work yourself.
See if you can get a local kid to mow your lawn instead of an expensive service
You will often pay a lot of money for a service to provide lawn care, but really anyone with a lawn mower might be able to provide the work you need. Many neighborhood kids earn a little extra money by mowing lawns. If you are absolutely sure that you do not want to do the work yourself, then you might want to inquire around to see if there is someone who is running a little local and reasonable lawn mowing business. You might find someone for far less that you were previously paying.
Buy supplies at discounted rates
There are many places that sell lawn supplies. You will find them at department stores, general stores, discount stores and at many sources on the Internet. You might want to try to purchase them at a discount store to save money. Oftentimes you can get the exact same thing but just pay less. Many stores also have a lot of coupons or sales, which might allow you to pay less for the same products. You should price compare before you buy.
See if you can share the job and/or supplies with neighbor(s)
You might be able to form a pact with several people in regards to lawn care. Perhaps you can all chip in to get the lawn mower and other supplies. Then you can each just use it when you want to do your lawn. You can stagger the days you do it so that no two people will need it at the same time. If you want to further pool your resources, you could consider having one person do all of the lawns at one time, and then that person rotates so everyone has to do it once in a while but then is free the rest of the time.
