Preschool Bulletin Board Ideas Things that Grow
The beauty of nature enthralls young children. You can teach them about this fascinating subject by creating a bulletin board on “things that grow.” Your preschoolers may love one of the following ideas.
Real plants bulletin board
Turn your bulletin board into a real life garden. You can purchase very small pots and plants that can actually be mounted to the board. For instance, you can place a plant in a plastic cup that is attached by extremely strong tape and staples. Put a little dirt and some seeds in these. Let the children water them and watch as they start to grow. Make sure to get plants that will do well in a small space and with artificial light (unless the bulletin board is near a window). Next to the plants you can write the name of the plants and show photographs of full size specimens.
Fake plants bulletin board
Of course not every preschool teacher will be comfortable with real plants on a bulletin board. Instead you can purchase fake plants from a store such as Michael’s Arts and Crafts. Mount these up with staples, tape, glue or tacks. You can show photographs of the plants as well. Show drawings or pictures of how one would take care of a plant by watering it, pruning it, etc. The children can also pretend to do these activities in pretend play.
Getting the children involved
It can be excellent if the children can be involved in the bulletin board. You can have them each draw a picture of something that grows. It does not have to be limited to plants. Of course animals grow as do other things. Alternatively, they can make an art project. With some fabric and stuffing, they can make their own little stuffed animals or plants. You can then mount their work on the board.
Imparting the lessons
You can use your bulletin board to teach other lessons as well. For instance, teach letters, spelling and reading by writing out the names of the plants or items next to them. The children can guess how it is said. You can also teach counting. For example, if you have a picture of a rose bush, write down the number of roses, the number of leaves, the number of thorns, etc.
A bulletin board on things that grow can be educational and fun for preschool students. Decorate your bulletin board with a festive border and embellishments such as leaves, dried flowers, stickers, and more. With a little creativity, you can achieve a beautiful board.
