Pros and Cons of Having Students Change Clothes for Physical Education
2432 Words: 430
There are different arguments for and against having the students dress out for their physical education class. Both have valid points, so it will be a matter of weighing these different things to decide what is best. The following are some of these advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages
The child’s regular clothes won’t get sweaty and dirty. This is probably the biggest advantage. When you exercise, your clothes may get sweaty and dirty, and the student might not want that to happen to their regular clothes. Also, if the student has more classes after physical education, then they will have to sit in those sweaty and dirty clothes for the rest of the day, which might be uncomfortable for them. Even if they take a shower, they would just get right back into their dirty clothes and feel dirty again.
They will not ruin their regular clothes. When you exercise, you might fall or accidentally tear your outfit. It might be better if it is just their workout clothes rather than a nice outfit.
It does not limit what they can wear to school. If the students know they are going to be exercising in those clothes it will limit what they can wear to school. Many girls like to wear dresses but this would be difficult because it is hard to work out in them. They also might be uncomfortable about wearing their better clothes.
Disadvantages
It adds a lot of time. Nowadays, many schools have cut back on physical education to begin with. If you need to add in time for them to get dressed on either side of the class, you could add twenty minutes or more to the class. This can significantly cut down on the amount of time you have in the class.
Some kids are uncomfortable changing into those types of clothes. There are some kids who would be uncomfortable in many of the standard workout clothes. They may be embarrassed about how they look and might feel bad about wearing the clothes.
It is an added expense to the children or the school
Many schools have specific workout outfits to help avoid having the children dress in their own workout attire, which can sometimes be tight or even sexy (which is not generally wanted by schools). If so, then this is another expense that either the children or the student will have to pay.
There are pros and cons to having the children dress out for physical education. Every school will need to evaluate its own situation to determine what is best for them.
