Science Homeschool Activities for Preschoolers
(417 Words)
Teaching your homeschooled preschooler about the mysteries of the universe can be a lot more fun than tedious lectures. There are many exciting and fascinating science activities for this age group, including the following.
Looking through a telescope to learn about astronomy
Preschoolers are finally old enough to learn that the stars are more than just for wishing. They may love to learn about stars, planets, comets, and the other wonders of the heavens. You can purchase a telescope and let them look through it so that they can see these celestial bodies with their own eyes instead of just looking at photographs. You can also take them to an observatory.
Looking through a microscope
Preschoolers may not believe the world that is hidden under microscopic terms. You can buy a microscope kit, complete with slides. You can show them that there is much more than what they see with the naked eyes. They can learn about biology with these slides.
Experimenting with science
There are many great science experiments in different fields that can teach kids in a fun way. You can have the children use the power of chemistry to make a lava spouting volcano. They can come up with their own simple science experiment such as trying to figure out how different chemicals react with each other.
Make fun models
You can illustrate the hallmarks of science to your preschooler. For instance, let’s say you want to teach them basic information about cells. You can bake a big cookie and use candy to represent parts of the cell.
They can also use arts and crafts to represent a scientific principle. For instance, they can use paper, string, glue and scissors to make a model of the solar system.
Just because your child is homeschooled does not mean that all of the schooling has to take place in the home. You can take your child on your own “field trips.” For instance, if you are learning about biology and the different types of animals, then you can take him or her to the zoo or Lion Country Safari. There are many science and discovery museums all over the country. You can take him or her to a museum such as the Ft. Lauderdale Museum or Discovery and Science where they can learn about fish, aerodynamics, astronomy, and many other fields of science.
It is important to teach your homeschooled preschooler about science, and there are many great activities. Your child may enjoy the above projects.
