Winter Craft Ideas for Toddlers

Crafts allow toddlers to explore their creativity and create a fun item they can keep. Try a winter-themed craft to teach your toddler about the season. There are many easy crafts from which to choose.
Paper Snowflake
Your child can create a snowflake with only a piece of paper and a pair of child-safe scissors. Take a piece of white construction paper and fold it many times to make it into a smaller square. There is no exact amount of times you should fold it; the smaller it is, the less cutting. Then let your child use the scissors to cut out small pieces from the sides of the paper. When he or she is done, open the paper and let your child view his or her snowflake. If you want, you can let your toddler embellish the snowflake with glitter, sequins or other embellishments. He or she can also color it with crayons, markers or paints. If you wish to hang it up, then punch a hole with a hole puncher and attach a piece of yarn to it.
Stocking
Your child can make his or her own holiday stocking. If your child can cut, have him or her cut out two pieces of construction paper in the general shape of a stocking. You can use a holiday stocking or even a regular sock from your home to trace, or you can draw it freehand. If your child is too young to cut, then you can do that part. He or she can then put glue along all the edges, except the top of one of the stockings, and glue the other piece on top. This will create a sleeve that can actually hold small and light items such as stickers. The child can then decorate the stocking with crayons and markers.
Snowman hand puppet
Buy white paper bags at the store or have your child color a brown paper bag white. He or she can then color a snowman on it. He or she can also glue pieces of paper such as an orange triangle for the carrot nose or use other embellishments. When done, your child will have a fun winter hand puppet.
Make certain that the crafts are safe for the toddler and supervise as necessary. For instance, some of the crafts may involve small items that are not suitable for children under three, thus take that into consideration. Tailor the craft to your toddler’s particular age and help as necessary.
