Should you do your own Nails

Many women love the look of manicured nails. No matter whether you like an elegant French manicure or a bold and brassy color, you will have two main choices on where to get your nails done. You can do it on your own in your home or you can go for a professional manicure. There are different advantages and disadvantages to doing your own nails.
Advantages
One main advantage of doing your own nails is the money savings. Typically you can do your own nails for a fraction of the cost of a manicure. Most manicures cost at least $10, but depending on the type you can get, you can spend four times that or more. When you do it on your own in your home, you only pay for the cost of your supplies. Depending on how much those are, you could literally pay less than a dollar to do your own manicure. Especially if you like to have your nails done regularly, these savings can add up.
You also have the convenience of doing your nails whenever you want if you do it on your own. Perhaps you’re always busy with the children or with your job and can only do your nails early in the morning or late at night when the salons are not open. This flexibility is an advantage of doing it yourself.
You also may have safety concerns about going to a nail salon. While many of them take precautions to safely do nails, there have been problems in the past. You may feel more comfortable with your own tools and nail polish that no one else used.
It is also easier to repair a little chip when you do it yourself to begin with. For instance, if there is a little chip you can simply add a little more of the nail polish. If you go to a salon, you may not have the same nail polish and might not be able to repair it.
Disadvantages
One disadvantage is that you may not be able to do as good a job as a professional. Professional manicurists often go to school to learn how to do nails. They may have licenses and a lot of experience. You may simply not be able to replicate their work. The nail polish may not look as nice or it may not stay on as long.
Availability of nail polish types and colors can actually be an advantage or a disadvantage of doing your own nails. If you like to have a huge variety of nail polishes, then you may have to purchase more colors if you do your nails at home. You can look online and in beauty supply stores and pick out the perfect nail polish for you. At the salon, there are many different colors, however it is far from the amount that are available commercially. You will have to choose what they have. Of course, if you do not want to have an extensive array of nail polishes in your home then you could very well have a much better selection at a salon.
There are both advantages and disadvantage to doing your own nails. Think about your financial situation as well as your own characteristics when deciding whether this is right for you.
