Primary biliary cirrhosis is a serious disease characterized by the destruction of bile ducts in the liver. According to the Mayo Clinic, bile is essential for the correct digestion of fats. It also provides a benefit by decreasing worn red blood cells, cholesterol and toxins in your body. There are many symptoms that characterize this condition.
Symptoms range greatly in different people with this disease. Some people will experience no early symptoms at all whereas others will notice symptoms at the beginning. Fatigue is often found as an early symptom. The severity of the exhaustion is not linked to the severity of the disease.
Some people with primary biliary cirrhosis experience itching at the beginning, or pruritis. Legs, arms and the back are the most affected. It tends to worsen during the night and not be as bad during the day. Some people have difficulty sleeping because of this symptom.
